You, They, We, Him

My Father
They have searched you…invaded your privacy, jumped to conclusions and infringed your legal rights, which makes them think they know you all. He has searched you…He cared enough to know you personally and not as a [black] people group, but He knows you specifically and individually as your Creator. They pursue you and snatch you from your cars, daily runs and routines. They command you to sit down, rise up, force you to the ground with their knees and feet literally on your necks. He loves you so much that He is there in even your most mundane tasks of sitting down and rising up. He is so intimately invested in you that he knows every single thought you have, the good the bad and the ugly, and yet He pursues you. They shut you up before you can utter a word. There’s no opportunity to question the violation, no opportunity to surrender…They take your liberty and their perceived justice in their hands, while they tie your hands up, and that’s on a good day. On a bad day they curse you and take your life. He knows the how, why, when and where before you can utter a word. His justice is supreme, holy and utterly perfect, yet He offers the grace to cover your wrongdoing. He touches you with His gentle hand of protection and places a blessing on your life. Can you go anywhere without them surrounding you? Is there a place to flee toward freedom? If you move to the “good neighborhoods” they are there threatening you with your own blackness and presuming you don’t belong. If you are in the “bad neighborhoods” they are there (from afar) assuming you are up to no good. They lead you from the light of day into the prison systems to get lost in a dark hole, never to be seen again. There is no where you can go without Him surrounding you with His love. There is only one place you can run toward freedom—in Jesus, He gives the true freedom experience (this life and the next). The only status that matters to Him is your relationship status–with Him. He can take your hand and lead you from darkness into the light with Him forever. They formed their opinions about you and marked your value while you were still in your mother’s womb. They tear you down and carry the torch of fear of you because of your stature and how you are made and the heinous things they think you are capable of doing. He formed you, BEAUTIFUL BLACK MAN, fearfully and wonderfully in your mother’s womb! He saw and sees every part of you and the amazing things you are capable of doing. Praise God for you. They harm and kill you, then forget you. They post the exclusives and when they get bored with your story, they move on. They don’t think of the privilege or recount the sum of nights of peaceful sleep they have, free of worry that doing mundane tasks living in their skin color (the way you do) can lead to their demise. They choose the side of “wait until” they can paint you in a bad light. They abort your life at any age with their guns, knees, ropes and chains, isn’t it ironic… |
You are imperfect! Yes, you are a sinner deserving of wrath, but just like you, they deserve that very same punishment. Even our good works don’t redeem us.
The God of the universe never forgets you. Your thoughts, your life, your worries, the things you don’t worry about. He is completely interested in you, even your sleep habits consume his thoughts. You think they oppose you, but Black man, they oppose the living God and sorry to that man who does so. Do not hate them. Hate what they do against your Creator. Loathe how they violate His Justice for their name’s sake. Yes, vengeance is the Lord’s. Look to Him, come humbly, boldly and confidently before His throne with a pure heart. Submit your hurts, your fears, and every one of your tears to the One who formed you.
Selah
They threaten you with your own blackness. BUT Your stature is a work of art (each one of you). Your melanin is an array of complexity, you are your own brown hued rainbow from God – A symbol of promise that your life matters. The blood that runs through your veins is the same color of the blood of the One who gave His life for you to live every one of the days written in His book (for you here and in eternity). Receive the gift of life. Your strength is a stone, I know you’re tired, but remember the rejected stone that became the Cornerstone. Build your hope in Him and He will sustain you.
I know you feel the need to justify your existence to them, but He justified your existence to and for you at the Cross.
We carry you, Black Man. We remember you, Black Man. We tell your life story, Black Man. We see you, Black Man. We walk with you, Black Man. We run with you, Black Man. We run to you, Black Man. We embrace you, Black Man. We breathe with you, Black Man. We encourage you, Black Man. We fear for you, Black Man. We await your “home” text, Black Man. We receive your location pin drops, Black Man. We support you, Black Man. We fight with and for you Black Man. We fall short, but He never does, Black Man.
Wow! No words, thanks for sharing this! It’s beautiful and powerful and sad what’s happening in the world these days.
